Don’s dino cl72 250

Don’s Dino 250 is one rad ass time capsule of pure 60’s shroom power. It’s hard enough to come by an original CL72, let alone a finely chopped survivor.

Tattooer Don Laing momentarily sold this little chop but thankfully he was able to snatch it back up a year or so later. Like most choppers and motorcycles that have changed owners over the years, there were a few issues that needed to be sorted. Thankfully I wasn’t starting from scratch and it just needed some TLC.

Now if you’ve ever had the luck of working on old choppers, it is an experience for sure. For those old enough to understand, it’s Jedi shit. That may seem like I’m exaggerating but truth be told you have to dissect everything that's been done, to hopefully understand what’s been done. And then of course ask why?

One thing is for sure, it's all in the details. In this case my customer seemed set on using the original key his chop was built with. Problem was he only had the top side of the ignition switch. Unannounced to me, Honda CL72 and 77 parts are hell of expensive! An oem ignition switch can easily set you back a couple hundred bucks on ebay. Thankfully I was able to find an ignition switch with no key for a little cheaper. I was then able to siamese the two and give him the use of his original key.

After some rewiring and maintenance the job was completed, but because old machines are old machines, not everything was resolved. Even though the bike was test ridden a handful of times, after delivery it seems the charging system was not charging sufficiently. Off the line these charging systems were not big juice pumpers, but I may have missed something, who knows. So at the first schedule alignment I will go to my customer’s garage and hopefully get more juice flowing back to that battery of his so he can enjoy riding this Dino as much as I did while “test” riding it.
